Chase reaching 100 mph ends in East Bexar County

John Duncan, 46, taken into custody Thursday

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A dangerous chase in East Bexar County came to an end on Highway 87, landing a man in jail.

The chase ended on Highway 87 off of Kirkner Road about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said the chase started after a call went out for a white Crown Victoria, driven by John Duncan, 46.

The Sheriff's Office reported that Duncan had been harassing his wife.

A China Grove police officer found the car in a parking lot off of Highway 87 and FM 1516. When the officer tried to question Duncan, he took off.

He led police and Bexar County sheriff's deputies on a chase up and down 87 with speeds reaching almost 100 miles per hour.

Deputies laid spikes near Kirkner Road, forcing Duncan to come to a stop.

They had heard that Duncan was armed with a shotgun, but when they took him into custody, they found he was unarmed. However, deputies reported that he did smell like gasoline.

The Bexar County Fire Marshal's Office is looking into why he smelled like gas. Sheriff's officials said for now, Duncan faces charges of evading arrest, but he could face more charges.
