SAN ANTONIO – Streetcar opponents hoping to hear that City Council members would allow the public to vote on the issue in November were dealt a blow by the San Antonio City Clerk on Wednesday afternoon.
She said based on the city attorney's opinion that the charter amendment petition is invalid, the issue will not be presented to voters in the fall.
The issue: 8,861 signatures did not have the circulator affadavits. While state election officials said that documentation was not necessary, the city attorney saw it differently.
That left just 12,138 signatures valid. That number is short of the 20,000 signatures required to take the issue to a public vote.
