SAN ANTONIO – With Lyft and Uber again operating in San Antonio, the city has released an animated instructional video to explain the choices rideshare customers have under the new operating agreements.

The video explains how customers can ensure their rideshare driver has been screened by the San Antonio Police Department and passed a background check.

The rideshare apps will notify customers if the driver assigned to them has passed the city's background check. If the driver does not have a verification number next to their name, customers can cancel the ride and request another driver.

“It is important for our residents and visitors to know they can select a driver who has been screened by the San Antonio Police Department,” Mayor Ivy R. Taylor said. “Our innovative program provides customers with a new and useful data point about their driver that will help them make an informed choice when traveling throughout our city.”

Rideshare drivers can apply for verification by downloading a free application on the city's website. SAPD will then take their photo and run their fingerprints through an FBI database.

City Council approved an ordinance and operating agreement on Aug. 13. Uber began operating in San Antonio again last month. The city said Lyft is expected to return before the holiday season.
