Community encouraged to wear red in memory of fallen firefighter

Fallen firefighter Scott Deem to be laid to rest Friday

SAN ANTONIO – The firefighting community is calling on San Antonio residents to wear red Friday to remember fallen firefighter Scott Deem.

Deem was killed while fighting a massive blaze at the Ingram Square Shopping Center last Thursday.

Firefighters Robert Vasquez and Brad Phipps were injured in the fire. Phipps remains in critical condition at San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Deem will be laid to rest Friday with San Antonio Fire Department engines leading a precession to Community Bible Church. The procession will leave Lot B of the Alamodome at 9 a.m. Friday.

In addition to wearing red, firefighters are asking the community to use the hashtag #SAFDStrong to share uplifting images of support.
