Contestants compete at Alamodome to qualify for international hot dog eating contest
SAN ANTONIO – Contestants gathered at the Alamodome on Saturday afternoon to see how many hot dogs they could eat to qualify for the annual Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, Brooklyn.
The top male and female finishers will be participating in the famous ESPN-televised competition. One winner downed 22 hot dogs in 10 minutes.
“Honestly, I didn't think I was going to win it. I was just going to give it my best, and then this happened,” the winner said.
On July 4, he’ll face off reigning hot dog eating champions Joey Chestnut and Miki Sudo. An estimated 35,000 people have traveled to Coney Island in recent years to watch the event.
