Crews continue clean up at old Solo Serve on River Walk

Debris from demolition collapses on SA River near Commerce and Soledad streets

Cleanup crews on Thursday floated on the San Antonio River downtown using magnets and hooks in search of submerged items after a demolition accident at the old Solo Serve.

A contractor in recent weeks has been tearing down the building near Commerce and Soledad streets. Debris fell onto the river on Wednesday afternoon.

No one was injured.

Thea Setterbo, public engagement officer for the city of San Antonio, said the contractor is making good progress with the cleanup.

"During this phase of the demolition, they agreed to close the sidewalk on the River Walk level, so there was a pedestrian walkway prior to that," she said. "But it has been closed for a few days now. It will remain closed through spring break and during this entire portion of the demolition."

The cleanup is expected to take at least a few more days, Setterbo said.
