Crime Stoppers offers $10,000 in cold case

Daughter seeks answers in mother's 1993 murder

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police and Crime Stoppers raised the reward for information in a nearly 20-year-old murder.

Carolyn Susan "Susie" Grant, 39, was shot to death in the doorway of her home on Rancho Blanco on June 11, 1993.

The victim's daughter, Amanda Grant, has patiently waited 18 years for police to arrest the person who killed her mother.

"I was 9-years-old when my mother was shot and killed and I'm now 30, so it's been hard growing up without her," Grant said. "It's been a very long process. You got to be a person that has a lot of patience."

According to police, Grant was living at the home with a roommate, who told investigators a man knocked on the door at about 5 a.m. and asked for Susan.

"To my understanding, they got in some kind of argument and the argument led to the shooting and that's when he shot her multiple times and she died there shortly thereafter near the front door," Grant said.

Over the years, the leads have dried up and the case went cold but Amanda never gave up hope.

About two years ago, she got a tattoo on her arm with her mother's name and her birthday and the day she died. She said she hoped it would bring some closure but it didn't work.

About 8 months ago, Grant said she started asking detectives to give the case another look.

"He's (detective) been combing through the facts, whatever they gathered at the crime scene, and they've been going over it and highlighting things that need to be re-looked at," Grant said.

Grant is hopeful the renewed interest in her mother's case will lead to the killer being brought to justice and finally answer questions she's been struggling with most of her life.

"Those questions have never been answered for me. It's been 18 years and I think I deserve justice," Grant said.

Investigators believe Carolyn "Susie" Grant knew her killer but so far they haven't been able to make a solid case against anyone.

For one week only, Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of Grant's killer.
