KSAT Defenders testing murky water from Crystal City

Lab rushing tests to get results ASAP

CRYSTAL CITY, Texas – The KSAT Defenders are testing the murky water that came out of some Crystal City residents' taps last week.

The Defenders brought a sample of water to San Antonio Testing Laboratory Tuesday to be tested for 28 metals, mercury and any volatile organic compounds. The sample was collected and saved by a Crystal City resident.

San Antonio Testing Laboratory told the Defenders they would rush testing on the sample so residents will know as soon as possible what it was that came through their faucets last week.

Residents first reported having murky water Wednesday night. Then the city began opening hydrants to flush out what they said was sediment from the water tower being drained.

But by the time TCEQ tested water at five sites Thursday, they found the water to be clear. The agency also said the chlorine residuals and water pressure measurements they took that day were within regulations.

Since then the TCEQ has advised residents boil their water and avoid any discolored water as they wait for more test results. A spokeswoman said results of the agency's testing will possibly be available Wednesday.
