DNA test leads to arrest in 2015 Universal City sexual assault case

Lonnie Williams, 41, accused of leaving woman bloodied in ditch

SAN ANTONIO – Lonnie Williams, 41, has been linked to the beating and sexual assault of a woman in Universal City through DNA evidence, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Williams was arrested Tuesday on a charge of aggravated sexual assault.

The affidavit said that Universal City police found the victim, bleeding from her head, in the area of Loop 1604 and Pat Booker Road in July 2015.

The victim told police she had woken up in a ditch where she had been "left for dead" by a man who attacked her.

The affidavit said that investigators were able to obtain a DNA sample which they entered into a crime database. In December 2016 they received an email notifying them that the sample matched Williams' DNA, the affidavit said.

Police obtained a warrant for Williams' arrest in December but took him into custody Tuesday.

The affidavit does not state whether the victim and suspect knew each other.
