Dog killed in early morning house fire

Fire started in 12400 block of La Albada

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio firefighters said a family managed to safely escape a fire in their home, but their dog did not.

The fire started around 5:30 a.m. Sunday. When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke and flames coming from the top of the house in the 12400 block of La Albada.

Officials said the fire was mostly contained to the garage and attic. Heavy smoke filled the entire house, causing an estimated $120,000 worth of damage.

A couple and their son safely evacuated the home. When firefighters went inside they found their pet Chihuahua who did not survive the fire.

Arson investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
