Witness says driver claiming to be Jesus Christ rams truck, damages home

BCSO: Driver had boy, 12, with him at time

SAN ANTONIO – A driver who a witness said claimed to be Jesus Christ is accused of purposely ramming a parked pickup, sending it into the side of a Northeast Bexar County home.

Sheriff's deputies said they found a man and a 12-year-old boy in a car suffering from injuries around 4 a.m. Monday in the 7900 block of Horse Hollow.

Deputies also determined that the man's car had hit a pickup in the driveway of the home, causing it to slam into a garage.  According to a preliminary report, investigators believe the crash was intentional.

Fernando Charles owns the pickup and the home that were hit. He said he doesn't know the driver, but believes he was suffering from a mental problem.

"I walked up to him and he grabbed me like this," Charles said, showing that the man had placed both hands around his neck. "He was telling me that he was Jesus Christ, and that he was going to die and that I was going to die. I was just trying to calm him down."

Charles said the driver then began to walk away from the scene, but collapsed nearby. The man suffered a head injury and the boy suffered head and back injuries, sheriff's officials said. They were taken to a hospital.

Charles and his family were not hurt. But he is concerned about the damage to his property.

In addition to the truck that was rammed, Charles' garage, along with a car parked inside and other items, sustained major damage. Charles said he wonders if there might be damage to his home that was not as apparent.

"The impact was so loud and forceful that we think (the foundation) may be out of whack," he said.

Once the driver is out of the hospital, he'll be headed to jail to face a charge of injury to a child, according to sheriff's investigators.  His name was not released right away.
