SAN ANTONIO – A driver was taken to the hospital Sunday morning after crashing his vehicle into a patrol car, police said.
According to San Antonio police, just after 4 a.m., the officer was clearing an earlier crash on Interstate 35 at Eisenhower Road.
The officer was inside his vehicle when someone driving a 2006 Ford GMC rear ended the partrol car.
The driver of that vehicle was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center in critical condition. His vehicle was totaled. Police said charges against the driver are pending.
"The front seat passenger of the GMC was uncooperative and refused EMS transport. The GMC smelled strongly of alcohol," said Officer Doug Greene.
The police officer was not injured.
The accident had the highway blocked off until shortly after 7 a.m.
