Family, friends honor loved ones on national day of remembrance

SAN ANTONIO – Family and friends gathered to honor and remember loved ones lost to violence for the 16th-Annual National Day of Remembrance for Murder Victims.

"Being here among all of these people that have lost a loved one, a daughter, a son is frustrating because really there's no need for this," said Margie Salinas.

Salinas' 28-year-old daughter, Dedra, was found dead in 2006. She had been missing since 1999.

Dedra Salinas's killer was never found.

"Today is very important and very special for me because it gives me an opportunity for me to expose my daughter's death," Salinas said.

The San Antonio Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children and Other Homicide Survivors held the event.

"I don't feel alone. You know you go to family gatherings or anywhere else, it's different here," said Norma Rodriguez.

Rodriguez's son, 17-year-old Paul DeLeon was killed in 2009.

He was shot in the back of the head while he was a passenger in a car.

Rodriguez comes here to keep his memory alive and continue fighting for justice.

"I know somebody knows something. My son deserves justice, he was 17, he had his whole life ahead of him," Rodriguez said.
