SAN ANTONIO – Local FBI agents are "monitoring" the investigation into last week's shooting death of an unarmed man by a San Antonio police officer.

Antronie Scott, 36, was pulled over by Officer John Lee Feb. 4 near Isom and Ramsey roads. Scott had two felony warrants out for his arrest, one for narcotics and one for possession of a firearm.

The officer said he thought Scott had a gun in his hand and fired one shot at Scott, hitting him in the chest. Scott died at the scene.

Police have said Scott was holding a cellphone.

Lee has been placed on administrative duty while SAPD conducts an investigation to determine if he broke the law or violated department policies.

FBI Special Agent Michelle Lee (no relation) said in a statement the agency is "in regular contact" with the department and that, "If in the course of the local investigation, information comes to light of a potential federal civil rights violation, the FBI is prepared to investigate."

The Scott family has retained a lawyer to investigate the shooting on its behalf.
