Fifth annual Women in Law Enforcement event takes place Saturday

Event will be held at Texas A&M San Antonio campus

SAN ANTONIO – The fifth annual Women in Law Enforcement event will take place Saturday at the Texas A&M San Antonio campus.

"If you have heart and you have guts, then I think you should totally go for it. It has allotted me the opportunity to take care of myself and my family," said Officer Shanus Bennett, with the San Antonio Police Department.

The FBI, San Antonio Police Department and Texas Game Wardens will all be on hand, giving testimonials and offering one-on-one sessions about their time in law enforcement.

"This is important to me because when I was growing up, I was always interested in becoming a special agent with the FBI, but I was never exposed to what that looked like," FBI Special Agent Jessica Triola said.

Triola has been a special agent with the FBI for more than five years. She believes being a woman has its advantages.

"I think we offer unique experiences as women and capabilities through communication skills that can really enhance investigations," Triola said.

Male or female, one thing all law enforcement workers share is a need to serve and protect.

"They call you when they’re in their time of need. Their worst nightmare might be happening at that time, and they’re looking for you to help them out. That’s one of the things that I also take pride in," said Officer Perla Dominguez, with the San Antonio Police Department.

The women in law enforcement event is set for Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Anyone interested in applying for a job with San Antonio Police Department can drop off an application during the event.
