The CPCR is tasked with recommending specific actions in five areas: how the police collaborate with the community; communication within and among City departments and the community about policing and public safety; police recruitment targets and processes; both initial and ongoing training for officers; and for a timeline for change and adopting processes that are transparent and encourages accountability.

“As a mom, I was paralyzed when my own 12 year old showed me footage of the incident in Baton Rouge on the computer and cried as she said ‘Mommy, why do they keep doing this to us?’ While police accountability and transparency has sparked national debate and is a public policy issue, it’s also deeply personal for so many people,” Mayor Ivy R. Taylor said.

Mayor Ivy R. Taylor created the CPCR to help address the need and the outcry in San Antonio.
