Frances Hall: 'I would never hurt my husband'

Hall asks jury for mercy, probation in death of her husband

SAN ANTONIO – A 53-year-old woman convicted in the death of her husband pleaded for mercy Monday as she took the witness stand in the punishment phase of her murder trial.

"Show mercy," Frances Hall said while sobbing. "I did not hurt my husband."

Hall was found guilty Friday of murder in the October 2013 death of her husband, trucking company owner Bill Hall.

"Please don't take me from my kids and my grandbabies," she pleaded. "I'm not that evil person."

Trial testimony revealed that Hall forced her husband off the road with her SUV as he was riding his motorcycle. Hall said that she was chasing her estranged husband and his mistress, who was following him in another vehicle.

Hall testified that she wanted to confront the mistress.

The defendant told the jury that she didn't realize that her SUV had collided with the motorcycle. Hall said when she was told of the crash on Loop 1604 South, she returned to the scene.

"He's lying on his back and blood is coming out," Hall told jurors. "I told him to calm down, that everything would be OK."

Closing arguments and jury deliberations are set for Tuesday morning in Judge Jefferson Moore's 186th District Court.

Hall is facing a maximum punishment of life in prison but is eligible for what she pleaded for  -- probation.
