SAN ANTONIO – Gun control advocates gathered at the Putting An End to Abuse through Community Efforts Initiative offices Wednesday in San Antonio to raise awareness for new gun safety legislation.
U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, members of PEACE Initiative and Moms Demand Action got together to talk about gun violence. The event was among many taking place across the country.
Moms Demand Action, which claims to have 3.5 million members, said come election time, it's going to remember which lawmakers stood up for tighter gun restrictions.
"We're here, we're watching, and we're going to remember in November really who has supported common-sense gun legislation and who has chosen to ignore it," said Leslie Bertolino, of Moms Demand Action.
House Democrats held a sit-in last week to demand a gun control vote during the chamber's recess. Lawmakers now want to use attention gained from the sit-in to push Congress for tighter gun laws.
Those against tighter gun restrictions cite the Second Amendment and said they want to protect their right to own guns.
