Gunman with child fatally shoots man on Southwest Side

Shooting occurred in 8600 block of Five Palms Drive

SAN ANTONIO – Police are investigating after a man in his 30s was killed in a drive-by shooting while walking on San Antonio’s Southwest Side.

The shooting occurred around 1 p.m. Sunday in the 8600 block of Five Palms Drive, near the intersection of Old Pearsall Road.

San Antonio police believe the victim was walking on the sidewalk when an older man in a black sedan pulled up next to him and shot him.

"Apparently when he pulled up on him he called the guy over,” Sgt. Don Gatten said. “So I'm not sure, they may (have) known each other."

The victim was hit once in the neck and died at the scene.

Police said the gunman had an 8-year-old child with him.

A neighbor, who did not want to be identified, said she is worried for her family.

"Hopefully all this gets straightened out and goes away,” she said. “I have two grandbabies and it is worrisome."

Anyone with information is asked to call San Antonio police at 210-207-7273 or Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP.
