HEB feeds thousands at annual Feast of Sharing

15,000 people turn out for annual event

SAN ANTONIO – Thousands of people were treated to a holiday meal Saturday at HEB's annual Feast of Sharing.

Hundreds of people volunteered to work the event at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

More than 15,000 people came to the meal, featuring glazed ham, turkey, mashed potatoes and dessert.

The annual feast is now a tradition for HEB.

"They not only do it here, they do it for 31 cities around Texas and Mexico, our's being the largest event of all of them. People think this is a tax write-off. They do this all out of their operating fund," said HEB Leadership Committee Chair Jim Damron.

Organizers said it took an army of volunteers to prepare more than 4,200 pounds of turkey.

This year's gathering also featured a variety of activities, including live music and an interactive children's fun zone.
