Horse cutting competition wraps up at SA Rodeo

SAN ANTONIO – Sunday marked the end of the horse cutting competition at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

Competitors took part in the western-style event as horseback riders cut, or separate, a calf from a herd, while demonstrating their ability to keep the calf from returning to the herd.

Executive Director of the National Horse Cutting Association Jim Bret Campbell said the event takes tremendous partnership between rider and horse.

"It really is a true representation of the western heritage, and all the things that people love about the cowboy and the West. And to be able to come in here, and do it on these horses is a cool blast and is fun, and is something everyone needs to come out and watch," Campbell said.

Even though the horse cutting competition is over, there are many more events to take in at the rodeo.
