WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) announced Monday that an investigation found Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro violated the Hatch Act on April 4 during a Yahoo News interview.
OSC began the investigation after receiving complaints about Castro's interview.
The report states that Castro's statements during the interview mixed his personal political views with the official agency business, despite his efforts to clarify that some of his answers were given in his personal capacity.
OSC said federal employees are required to make partisan remarks while speaking in their personal capacity, but not when using their official title or when discussing agency business.
OSC turned over its findings to President Obama on Monday.
