SAN ANTONIO – The fifth annual LaborFest became a major bust for those hoping to see some popular soul and funk musical artists.
Attendees said acts were canceled with no explanation and now they're waiting to see if they'll get a refund.
"I just want them to keep their end of the bargain. I want them to give us the show that we paid for," LaborFest-goer Michelle Crayton said.
Event-goers said they knew something was wrong Saturday night when the O'Jays didn't take the stage at their scheduled time.
The postponement of the soul/funk lineup, which included Chaka Kahn and Betty Wright, was announced on the festival's Facebook page. However, people said they felt like they weren't getting any answers.
"You should refund everybody their money because you took our money under the false pretenses of putting on a show," LaborFest goer Karen Plunkett said.
"It's unfortunate, LaborFest is a big community event," CEO and founder Larry Williams said.
Williams said people who paid hundreds of dollars to attend his annual event will soon learn what happened.
"The things that we will reveal will be shocking but that will come at a later time," Williams said.
Some said their frustrations came from more than just missing a show, since they traveled long distances to attend the event.
"I just want to let everybody know that we will make it right," Williams said.
LaborFest is not a city-sponsored event. The carnival and fair portion went on as planned Sunday.
