LAREDO, Texas – A woman tried to smuggle in a baby at a Laredo port of entry, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.

According to a news release, a 27-year-old American woman on Saturday presented U.S. birth certificates for three minor children traveling with her to CBP officers at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge.

During an inspection, CBP officers discovered that one of the birth certificates did not belong to a 9-month-old, who turned out to be a Mexican national, the news release said.

In addition, four Mexican nationals, including an 8-year-old and three adults, were found hidden in the cargo area of a 2007 GMC Yukon. None of the four had valid documents to enter the U.S., the news release said.

The woman was arrested for alleged violation of U.S. immigration laws and seized the vehicle.
