Man carjacked after stopping at East Side store

Police find stolen SUV abandoned nearby

SAN ANTONIO – A man who made an early morning stop at an East Side convenience store became the victim of a robbery and carjacking.

He told police it happened around 5 a.m. Monday outside a store in the 600 block of N. New Braunfels Avenue. The victim said he was approached by two men who robbed him of his cash at knifepoint, then ordered him to drive them around in his SUV.

When they reached St. John's Street near Nolan Avenue, the victim jumped out of his car and ran away, leaving the robbers behind, police said.

Officers found the SUV in that same spot, with its driver's door wide open, but the robbers were nowhere to be found. Police had only a vague description of those two men.

Although the victim was able to get his SUV back, he told police the robbers ran off with his keys.
