Man charged with murder in alleged dispute over parking spot

Franklin Martinez, 74, charged in killing of Manuel Lopez

SAN ANTONIO – A man who allegedly shot and killed another man over a dispute about a parking spot in November has been charged with murder.

Franklin Martinez, 74, was initially arrested and charged with aggravated assault in November and was released on bond.

The deadly shooting happened Nov. 29 on Elvira Street on the city's West Side.

According to an arrest affidavit, Martinez told the victim, Manuel Lopez, that he and his friends couldn't park in front of the house.

The affidavit says that Lopez responded with "You don't own the street," and threw a can at Martinez's truck.

Martinez pulled out a small handgun and fired at Lopez, hitting him in the chest, according to the affidavit.

Lopez died a few days later.

Martinez was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder.
