Man in surgery following Christmas Eve shooting

Victim taken to University Hospital and is expected to survive

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are investigating a shooting Thursday morning on the city's near North Side.

SAPD received the call just before 4 a.m. in the 700 block of West Woodlawn Avenue, just north of San Antonio Community College.

Police arrived on scene to find a 46-year-old man shot once in his left side. They said the man arrived home with the wound and woke his girlfriend up, who then called for help.

At this time it is not known if he accidently shot himself or if someone else shot him police said, as the man refuses to cooperate.

Police did say they know the man was shot somewhere else since there were no shell casings or blood trails at his home or in the Alta Vista neighborhood in which he lives.

The victim was taken to University Hospital in critical condition. He is undergoing surgery but is expected to survive.

The investigation is ongoing.
