Man shot dead during drug deal in East Side home

Officers found bag of marijuana near victim's body

SAN ANTONIO – A murder that happened inside an East Side home is believed to be related to a drug deal.

San Antonio police responded to the home, located in the 4100 block of Laura Jean Street, shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

They found a man dead from two gunshot wounds in his chest. Police said the man appeared to be in his 30s.

According to officers at the scene, there were definite signs of drug dealing inside the home, including a scale.

"Along with his body there, there was a large amount of hydroponic marijuana and also a trail (of marijuana) out to the cul de sac," said Lt. Dave Berrigan with SAPD.

Berrigan said the bulk of it was contained in a dry-sealed plastic bag, and it weighed about a pound.

"Nothing good comes out of drugs and we saw that tonight. The family is distraught," Berrigan said.

He said the man who called police to the scene had been inside the home at one time, but he told them he escaped through a back door or window the minute the shooting started.

Investigators did not find anyone who actually witnessed the murder.  However, they said someone did give them a vague description of two men who were running from the scene, both dressed all in red.
