Man suspected of killing woman, taking child killed by DPS troopers in Gonzales County

GONZALES COUNTY, Texas – The man who led law enforcement officers on a hunt all day Monday was shot and killed by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers in Gonzales County.

San Antonio police identified Adrian Hardeman as the main suspect in the shooting death of a woman and the kidnapping of her 1-year-old child.

Around 2:45 p.m., law enforcement officers caught up with Hardeman, 37, near the intersection of Alternate U.S. Highway 90 and County Road 364, just outside of Shiner. He had crashed his car and when troopers “made contact with the armed suspect” he was shot and killed, according to a statement from DPS.

SAPD Chief William McManus said Hardeman fatally shot the child’s mother at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of NE Loop 410 just before noon.

McManus said Hardeman wanted to reconcile with the victim, but she did not want to get back together.  

McManus said Hardeman left but returned, broke into the apartment, fatally shot the woman and took their child.

According to police, the child was located at around 1:15 p.m. in the 4900 block of Wycliff Drive. 

Texas Rangers are currently conducting an investigation into the shooting.
