Families speak about murdered loved ones found in North Side apartment

Three men found shot to death Tuesday

The families of three men found shot to death at a North Side apartment complex are grieving their losses.

Christine Martinez last heard from her son Matthew Martinez, 22, Monday night. "He says, 'Mom, you know I love you to death,'" Christine Martinez said her son told her.

The following day, Matthew Martinez and two others, Pedro Garcia, 21, and Anthoney Rodrigues, 24, were found with multiple deadly gunshot wounds in a North Side apartment in the 100 block of West Rampart Drive.

"He didn't want to be here anymore, because he just couldn't find a job," Christine Martinez said about why her son left Beeville.

Christine Martinez heard the news about her son's death on Facebook.

"He was always smiling. He was a busy body. He had many friends," she said.

Fifteen miles away, in Pettus, Pedro "Pete" Garcia's family held a bake sale to help pay for funeral expenses. KSAT 12 was told the men met in middle school.

"I want them to find out who did this and why they did it, because they hurt three families," said Monica Thomas, Garcia's cousin.

Neither family understands why anyone would want to kill their loved ones.

"They were trying to do better, and they just took everything away from them. They took everything away from us," Thomas said.

San Antonio police still haven't released any details about a possible suspect(s) or a motive.

"They don't know how bad this family is hurting right now, for what they've done to these three boys. I just hope that they get what they deserve," Martinez said.

In the meantime, the Martinez and Garcia families are holding multiple fundraising efforts to help cover funeral expenses.

The Martinez family gave the following services information:

  • 4 p.m. possible viewing on Tuesday at Trevino Funeral Home on 401 West Springer Street in Beeville

  • 7 p.m. funeral service at Trevino Funeral Home

  • 10 a.m. burial on Wednesday at Mineral Cemetery

Garcia's funeral arrangements:
