New initiative to help better serve veterans, their families

Program to inform leaders, companies how to support veterans

SAN ANTONIO – The Alamo Area Council of Governments in conjunction with the Institute of Veteran and Military Families and the Walmart Foundation have launched TXServes, a collaborative effort that will cater to the needs of military veterans and their families.

The initiative will provide resources for veterans. It will also inform community leaders or private companies on ways they can easily support veterans.

“We’re going to be able to form a catalyst and have all those issues in the areas of education, wellness, housing and employment and be interconnected to the organizations, so we can help them better serve the veterans and families,” said U.S. Army retired Maj. Gen. Freddy Valenzuela.

Organizers said TXServes will act as a one-stop shop to better coordinate veteran care.
