Mother seeking answers after daughter murdered in front of her child

Summer Perez shot, killed Saturday night

SAN ANTONIO – A mother is searching for answers after her daughter was shot and killed in front of her own daughter this weekend.

Summer Perez, 25, was Debbie Perez's youngest child.

Police said on Saturday night the 25-year-old was putting her own daughter into a car seat at a Citgo gas station on Goliad Road near Pecan Valley Drive when a white Ford Expedition drove up and someone inside opened fire.

Before Summer died at the hospital, police came to Debbie Perez’s door, asking for a family member to pick up the 2-year-old.

"I don't know how, day by day, I'm going to do it, and to try and take care of these babies, and explain to them or try to make them understand why, or how, somebody would do something so cold, and that they don't have their mom no more and will never see her again," Perez said.

Investigators told her they are reviewing surveillance video from the gas station and going around to the other businesses to see if there's more footage that could give a better view of the getaway car.

Perez said she has no idea who would have wanted to do this to her daughter, does not know anyone who drives a white Ford Expedition with dark tinted windows.

Perez said pictures from investigators showed Summer's car was riddled with bullets, and her grandchild is lucky she didn't get hit.

She urges anyone who saw something to call police.

Summer's other child, a 6-year-old boy, will celebrate his birthday next month, on the day before his mother would have turned 26.

"I just want, I want to know who did this," Perez said.
