Saldivar said when she last saw her son leave the house on Sunday afternoon, it was the last time she saw him alive.

"One of his friends, a girl, was going to pick him up and take him to the Churchill area," said Saldivar. "I was calling him and texting him every few seconds because I knew there was something wrong as soon as he walked out the door."

Jonathan Saldivar said late Sunday night, they got a call from a detective, stating they had found Mark's phone.

"I asked the detective, ‘Was it found at a Chick-fil-A?’” said Jonathan Saldivar, Mark Saldivar's older brother. “He hesitated, but he said, ‘Yes.’ And, I told my mom that Mark was gone."

Police said Mark Saldivar was riding in a dark-colored four-door sedan with three men and a woman when they started arguing in the car.

Police said the driver pulled into the restaurant parking lot and at some point, Saldivar stood up on the hood of the car and kicked the windshield.

That's when someone in the car leaned out of the car and shot him.

"Hoping the people that did it, hopefully, they have a conscience and turn themselves in," Lucy Saldivar said. "If anybody out there knows anything, they could call the police and help them find them."

Lucy Saldivar said her son was happy, loved photography and writing music and had a lot of friends.

"My youngest son, he didn't have to die," Lucy Saldivar said. "They really robbed me and him of his life. My heart is broken into pieces. It will never be the same."

Police said the vehicle, which has significant damage to the front windshield, drove off in the westbound lanes of the Loop 410 access road.
