NEISD bus barn damaged by early morning fire

Fire was reported just before 4:30 a.m. at North terminal

SAN ANTONIO – Emergency crews responded to a fire at the North East Independent School District bus barn early Monday morning, NEISD spokesperson Aubrey Chancellor said.

The fire was reported just before 4:30 a.m. at the North terminal, which is located in the 24000 block of US Highway 281 North, found near Marshall Street and out past TPC Parkway.

The San Antonio Fire Department and the San Antonio Police Department both answered the call and shut down power to building. Officials said the fire occurred in one of the offices and ultimately caused roughly $5000 worth of damage.

Authorities said they believe something battery powered inside a cabinet might have started the fire.

The fire was contained to the cabinet inside the building but smoke however was found throughout. There are no buses inside the building and none were damaged.

Chancellor said that the a.m. dispatcher was working with the police department to retrieve the bus keys but that there may be some delays for bus service. All routes will be completed -- but some buses that come from the north terminal may be several minutes late to pick up students, Chancellor said.
