New 'rescue' coaster coming to SeaWorld San Antonio

Ride slated to be ready for summer 2017

SAN ANTONIO – Mark your calendars for the summer of 2017: A new roller coaster is coming to SeaWorld San Antonio, the park announced Tuesday.

On “Wave Breaker: The Rescue Coaster,” riders will be able to feel what it’s like to race alongside SeaWorld’s animal care team.

The Jet Ski-inspired coaster is based on marine rescue missions. The car design is what makes the ride the first of its kind in North America, according to SeaWorld.

"The new coaster promises a ride of a lifetime that’s also unique to SeaWorld’s mission,” SeaWorld San Antonio Park President Carl Lum said in a news release. “Replicating an adventure limited to only a few trained professionals, Wave Breaker will launch riders into an exhilarating experience similar to going on an animal rescue mission. The coaster is sure to thrill, but also brings awareness to the brave efforts of our animal teams as they join forces with organizations around the world to help ill, injured, orphaned and abandoned animals.”

The coaster reaches heights of up to 61 feet. Its track sits directly over water.

Wave Breaker joins three other coasters at SeaWorld San Antonio, including The Great White, Steel Eel and Shamu Express.
