Off-duty SAPD officer shoots at man allegedly trying to run him over with car

Suspect, Daniel Reyes, facing multiple charges

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department is investigating a officer-involved shooting after an off-duty officer accused a man of trying to run him over with a car.

The incident occurred Saturday just after 1 p.m.

According to police, Pablo Gonzales, was working at the Growdon Pound on the city's West Side when he saw a vehicle enter the pound.

Gonzales told investigators he told the driver, Daniel Reyes, to stop. Reyes refused, accelerated the vehicle while driving toward the officer.

Police said the officer feared for his life and he opened fire and hit the vehicle once.

Reyes stopped the car and Gonzales arrested him.

The department said the Gonzales has been with SAPD for 28 years and is on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.

Reyes is facing three charges, aggravated assault against a public servant, criminal trespassing on private property and evading arrest.

He is being held on $25,000 bail.
