SAN ANTONIO – The opening of the new Westfort Urban Villas residential development was celebrated Wednesday.
District 2 City Councilman Alan Warrick and representatives from Terramark Urban Homes gathered to celebrate the opening.
Westfort Urban Villas is a 20-unit single home development at Cunningham and Haywood avenues in the Westfort neighborhood, officials said.
Westfort Urban Villas broke ground on the project in the fall. Officials said the project is being built in four phases and several residents have already moved in to the first set of homes.
The project is scheduled to be completed by spring 2017, officials said.
"Westfort Urban Villas is a significant opportunity for homeowners to call District 2 home," Warrick said. "Blocks away from the DoSeum, Pearl Brewery, Methodist Hospital, VIA Transit Headquarters, San Antonio College and downtown, these new residents will have access to amazing restaurants, nightlife and cultural events that our great city has to offer. Our goal is to revitalize the San Antonio East Side, and I'm proud to say that Westfort Urban Villas are helping us achieve that goal."
Officials said as part of the Center City Housing Incentive Program, the project will receive more than $378,549 in incentives from the city of San Antonio for creating additional housing within the center city.
Incentives include a San Antonio Water System fee waiver and a 10-year tax reimbursement grant, officials said.
The city said the project illustrates continued growth in the midtown area that was envisioned when the Midtown Tax Increment Financing Zone was created in late 2008.

Officials said the garden-style homes, designed with a Spanish flair, feature three- to four-bedroom floor plans, high ceilings, private courtyards for outdoor entertaining and oversized, attached two-car garages.
