Police arrest 2, seek 3rd in Northside shooting death

Rashanda Barber, 25, and Daniel Griffin, 20 are charged with murder

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested two suspects and seek a third in connection to an early April shooting on the city's Northeast Side.

Sgt. Jesse Salame, spokesman for the San Antonio Police Department, said they have arrested and charged Rashanda Barber, 25, and Daniel Griffin, 20, with murder on Friday in the shooting death of Shawna Anderson on April 2.

"I think this serves a message to the people that have committed these crimes and anybody who's thinking about committing these acts of violence, we’re going to catch you," Salame said. "I think there are more arrests to come."

The shooting occurred just before 1 a.m. in the 6000 block of Glacier Sun Drive, found near Binz-Engleman Road and Mystic Sunrise Drive.

Salame said Anderson had been at a park watching a fight before driving off -- and that's when she was struck in the head by gunfire. Anderson crashed her vehicle into a nearby house.

"My understand is the victim was merely a victim of circumstance in the sense she had gone to watch the fight. (She) didn't anticipate, wasn't anticipating, and didn't expect for there to be gun violence," Salame said.

Witnesses told police they saw a silver SUV drive off after the shots were fired.

"These suspects are connected to some of the other violence that’s been going on the East Side, and I expect there is going to be more arrests,” Salame said.

SAPD is also asking the public's help in seeking a third suspect associated with the crime, James Chase, 26.

Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to contact police. A warrant is out for his arrest.
