Investigators said Roberts had been driving in a car with four passengers on Sunday morning.

The crash happened on the Southeast Side at Pecan Valley Drive. Roberts apparently lost control of the car. The car slid onto Interstate 37 and slammed into a steel pole.

The impact killed 14-year-old Michael Laque, who was in the back seat. Two other passengers were hurt. A fourth got out and flagged someone for help.

Roberts fled the scene. He was eventually identified through a photo lineup.
