SAN ANTONIO – Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting on the West Side that happened overnight after a domestic argument.
Police responded to the 100 block of Olga Street around 2:30 a.m. Saturday after getting a report of family violence.
Police found a scene filled with broken glass.
"The suspect broke a bottle over the woman's head during the argument and then came outside the house. Broke the windows, smashed the windows out of two vehicles that were parked in front of the house," Chief William McManus said.
McManus said the suspect then aimed his anger at officers.
"They pulled up, not quite into the driveway, and he opened fire," McManus said. "One (officer's) vehicle was struck."
The two officers returned fire, hitting the suspect in the chest.
Emergency Medical Services took the man to University Hospital to undergo surgery and police reported him in critical condition. They said the woman had a gunshot wound to her leg. They believe the man fired that shot..
Police said the 34-year-old could face charges of attempted capital murder of a peace officer and assault causing bodily injury.
Police told KSAT 12 that domestic calls can be the most dangerous situations. In this case, the man, who allegedly attacked his girlfriend, then turned his aggression toward police.
Both officers, one a 20-year veteran and the other with five years at the San Antonio Police Department, will be placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
