Man killed in West Side apartment shooting identified

Victim identified as 20-year-old Isaac Orosco

SAN ANTONIO – The family of Isaac Orosco wants justice after the 20-year-old died late Thursday night at University Hospital.

He was shot in a drive-by in the 1500 block of Northwest Crossroads on the West Side, San Antonio police said.

Orosco's stepfather Dewayne Edwards said the two had just spoken on Thursday about a new life for him serving his country.

"We were sitting up there looking at clips on YouTube of Marine boot camp, what they expect to go through, and he's been starting doing some weights and everything," said Edwards.

Later that night, Orosco's future changed in a split-second.  "He had just walked right past me as I was leaving," said Edwards.

Police said Orosco and another man had been walking back to an apartment when a dark-colored SUV pulled up in the parking lot.

Someone began to fire and Orosco was shot in the left wrist and hip.

A witness said he saw Orosco lying on the ground. "My daughter's in the military, and first thing goes through my head is you gotta find somewhere else to live," he said of what happened.

Edwards says Orosco loved his family, was talented in construction and there was nothing to suggest his stepson was mixed up with trouble. Police said there is no motive yet or arrests in the case.

"Probably won't seem real because he always 'Mr. Dewayne this, Mr. Dewayne that,'" said Edwards.

"I want justice because there's been so much of this happening, throughout San Antonio and throughout everywhere, with young kids in general just, losing their lives over nonsense," said Edwards.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP.
