SA's Dixie Flag Company playing major role in Trump inauguration

San Antonio based company spent two weeks on inauguration flags

SAN ANTONIO – All of the nation and world will have a front row view on the hard work of a San Antonio company on Friday.

The Dixie Flag Company set up shop in the Alamo City nearly six decades ago, and for the past two weeks, it  has been hard at work creating something very special for the president-elect’s inauguration.

“We make things that affect people. There is not magic in sewing two pieces of cloth together,” Pete Van De Putte said. “The magic comes from what you’ve created.”

Van De Putte leads the company his father started. The company made flags for both inaugurations of President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama.

With four swearing-in ceremonies under their belt, Van De Putte said they knew this year's would be a little easier since both candidates were from New York state.

“The outside flags are the 13-star flags with the circles of stars that everyone refers to as the Betsy Ross flag,” he said. “The center flag is a 50-star flag, and the two inside flags have the number of starts coinciding with the state of the new president.”

The flags the company made will hang between columns of the U.S. Capitol.

“This is not only affecting people,” Van De Putte said. “It becomes a part of history, which makes it even more amazing.”
