Hurricane Franklin, super high tides close beach to drivers

CORPUS CHRISTI, TexasUPDATE 8/11/2017: The beach has reopened to drivers, but swimming is not advised.

As Hurricane Franklin hits land in Mexico, the tides along the Texas coast are becoming more dangerous, prompting beach closures for drivers.

Super high tides and extreme dangers of rip currents have triggered the Padre Island National Seashore to close the beaches to drivers until further notice.

Extremely high tides mean there might not be enough beach on which to drive, prompting the closure.

High heat indexes, coupled with high humidity, are also a concern for beachgoers.

If you plan on visiting Padre Island National Seashore anytime soon be sure to stay hydrated.
