El Cenizo is the smallest and oldest sanctuary city in Texas.

The town of 3,800 residents doesn't have a jail. Suspected criminals are sent to the Webb County Jail in Laredo.

A law banning sanctuary cities was signed into law Sunday by Gov. Greg Abbott.

KSAT 12 News reporter Jessie Degollado recently visited with El Cenizo's mayor, who said he will continue to defend his citizens, despite the new law.

Monday on GMSA @ 9, Jessie spoke to Mark and Leslie about the mayor's passionate plea.
