SA man dies in apparent drowning in Corpus Christi

Victim identified as Robert Phelan, 52

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – A 52-year-old San Antonio Man died in an apparent drowning in Corpus Christi.

According to KRIS-TV.com, Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife officials said that Robert Phelan was on a sailboat with three family members Monday afternoon when he jumped in the water for a swim in Corpus Christi Bay.

Moments later, Phelan's brother saw him struggling and jumped in to try and save him, officials said.

The U.S. Coast Guard pulled both men from the water.

Phelan was taken to a hospital, where he later died, officials said.
