SA mom's letter to daughter's stepmom goes viral

Open letter gaining national attention

SAN ANTONIO – A mother's open letter to her daughter's stepmom is making its way across America over the Internet.

Candice Curry's blog post, titled "An Open Letter To My Daughter's Stepmom," starts off with the line "I never wanted you here."

However, the tone quickly changes and the end result of the letter has inspired other families after being shared countless times over social media.

"(There is) so much negativity with stepmoms and stepdads, and blended families always seems like it's a negative situation. And for us it's just amazing and we love each other, and I wanted to express to Ashley how grateful I am of that," said Curry.

The very honest and open letter is addressed to Ashley Parish.

Parish said when she first read the letter, it surprised her. "It made me feel so good, I was crying. Unexpected. When you're a step parent, you don't walk in expecting recognition," she said.

Curry said her post has gotten mixed reactions, but overall she hopes it helps others.

"It's good. It's a message so many people could relate to, so many blended families," she said.

Curry was featured on "Good Morning America" Tuesday morning to share more about the letter and the national response.
