San Antonio broadcasting legend Ricci Ware dies at 79

Ware left his mark in radio

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio broadcasting legend Ricci Ware passed away Friday morning.

Ware was in radio, television, the stage and movies, and he even owned a race car track. He was a weathercaster at KSAT for a time, but radio is where he made an indelible mark.

Ware was one of the city’s most popular DJs during the '60s and '70s. He worked at KTSA and KBUC.

He eventually returned to KTSA and started a radio talk show. He even worked with his son, Trey, before retiring in 2012.

Ware is a member of the San Antonio Radio Hall of Fame.

Trey Ware wrote a goodbye to his father on Facebook, saying, “He lived every minute of his 79 years.”

Funeral arrangements for Ricci Ware haven’t been announced yet.
