Around the same time, police at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-Westover Hills reported finding an abandoned car with bullet holes in it.
"Initially we were called out for an accident and then it turned out to be a shooting victim," officer Stanley Brown said.
Investigators found the shooting victim at the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. The man was driven to the hospital.
The victim’s elderly parents were inside their home with they heard the gunshots.
"Soy muy preocupado," Jose Macias, the driver's stepfather, said in Spanish as he explained that he was very worried.
They followed their son to the hospital.
Police blocked off an area near where the car was found.
The victim told police he did not know who shot him or why. He was later transported to another hospital and it expected to be OK.
Police said they are early in the investigation. "It could've been road rage. It could've been a drug deal. They could've been the bad guys. It's really hard to tell what happened this early on," Brown said.
