SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio police officer is on administrative leave as the department investigates claims he assaulted his wife.
The officer, Xavier Martin Cordero, 47, is a detective and a 17-year veteran of the department.

Cordero was arrested Saturday after his wife called 911 to report that he had struck her in the face, an arrest affidavit said.
The affidavit said the assault occurred during a fight between the two and the hit left the woman’s face, including her upper lip, swollen.
Officers at the scene called Cordero and told him to return home, but he refused, saying he was not going back so he could be arrested for “something so dumb” the affidavit stated.
Cordero admitted hitting his wife while she was hitting him, according to the affidavit, and that he may have hit her while defending himself.
