SAPD provides update on wounded Officer Julio Cavazos

Officer Miguel Moreno killed on duty

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department on Saturday provided an update on wounded Officer Julio Cavazos.

Cavazos, who was caught in the line of fire Thursday along with slain Officer Miguel Moreno, is still in intensive care, the San Antonio Police Department said Saturday.

A police spokesman said Cavazos still has a long recovery ahead of him.

The officer’s family is asking for privacy at this time, but Cavazos’ wife said she wanted to thank everyone for the prayers and support, the Police Department said.

In a show of support, the community has been dropping off gifts for Cavazos' daughter's recent birthday at substations around town.

One woman who dropped off a gift Saturday said she is the wife of an officer, so hearing about Cavazos and Moreno hits close to home.

"It hurts me because I have kids. We have kids, and we want to be there for one another and make somebody else smile, especially when they're going through a hard time," she said.

Anyone who would like to drop off a gift can do so at any police substation through Sunday.
